Murano glass vases are the ultimate symbol of Venetian beauty and craftsmanship. Each creation is the result of balance, technique, and aesthetic sensitivity — a language that Murano has preserved and renewed over the centuries.

At Original Murano Glass OMG®, we create every vase in our own furnace, following the original techniques handed down by Murano master glassmakers and reinterpreting them through contemporary colors and modern lines.

In this article, we’ll take you behind the scenes of our Murano glass vases — how they are made, the most fascinating traditional techniques, and how our most iconic collections come to life.

Why choose a genuine Murano glass vase

Choosing a Murano glass vase means bringing home a piece of Murano’s culture, one that lives on through the hands of master glassmakers.
Each creation is the result of generational knowledge and a unique equilibrium between technique and artistic sensibility.

In a world where industrial glass imitates the look of handcrafted works, recognizing an authentic creation makes all the difference.
A true Murano vase embodies a story made of precise gestures, carefully timed processes, and masterful color combinations that no machine could ever reproduce.

A fusion of aesthetics and tradition

The Murano tradition lives within the proportions, silhouettes, and colors of each vase. Whether linear or soft, every shape is designed to create harmony from every perspective.
The choice of pigments, fusion temperature, and transparency control are all steps that require great experience and precision.

The value of handmade craftsmanship and the Original Murano Glass OMG® certification

Each of our vases is created entirely in our Murano furnace, where master glassmakers work molten glass according to traditional techniques passed down through the centuries. No mass production, no outsourcing — only craftsmanship, expertise, and continuity of tradition.

To ensure every purchase is safe, traceable, and verifiable, we use our independent authentication system branded Original Murano Glass OMG®. Every creation comes with:

  • Holographic anti-counterfeiting sticker.
  • Certificate of authenticity (paper document).
  • Option for digital registration, by linking the name and image of the creation to a digital Electronic Certificate, archived and valid over time.

How a Murano vase is made: the art of glassblowing

To truly appreciate the value of a Murano glass vase, one must enter the furnace. Every creation is born from a rigorous process composed of precise steps, controlled temperatures, and centuries of refined technique.

Glassblowing is an art that Murano masters have practiced for generations — a constant balance between control and creativity, where every movement defines the final form.

The key stages of glassblowing

1. Gathering
The master collects molten glass from the crucible using a blowpipe, carefully adjusting the quantity needed.

2. Centering and initial shaping
The hot glass mass is rolled on the bronzin (metal plate) to smooth the surface and may be placed in damp wooden molds to achieve the first form.

3. Initial blowing
A light, controlled breath forms the air bubble inside — the base of every blown glass creation.

4. Decorative applications (when applicable)
– Murrine are arranged on a plate, reheated, and fused onto the glass surface.
– Glass canes are aligned and melted to create straight or wavy color patterns.
– Colored frits and gold or silver leaf are applied on the hot surface to generate luminous effects.
– In the Sommerso technique, the vase is dipped with one or more layers of crystal or colored glass, creating overlapping transparent depths.

5. Blowing and modeling
The master alternates blowing with tool work to refine proportions and define the profile.

6. Transfer and opening
The piece is detached from the blowpipe and attached to the pontello to shape the neck: the mouth is opened and the rim precisely formed.

7. Finishing and detachment
Final corrections of symmetry and contour. The vase is then released from the pontello and allowed to cool slowly.

8. Annealing
The piece is placed inside the annealing oven for gradual cooling, removing internal tension and stabilizing the glass.

9. Cold work finishing
After annealing, the final trimming begins — grinding, polishing, or engraving, depending on the desired finish.
